Electric Vehicles Coming Soon

As EVs become more popular in the United Kingdom, most vehicle manufacturers will be releasing a range of new electric-powered cars over the next few years.

This section lists some of the most exciting and innovative new electric vehicle models that will be available in car showrooms in 2023 and throughout 2024.

What New EVs Will Be Launched in 2024?

Tesla Motors first released the all-electric Roadster way back in 2008 - with a range of 245 miles (on a single charge). Since then, some suggest they 'set the tone' for other upcoming electric cars.

As a result, we can look forward to testing and reviewing even more of the exciting electric cars being launched very soon.

Electric Cars Coming from 2023

Moving on... Let's take a look at the newest fully-electric and self-driving cars already earmarked for widespread release by luxury automakers over the next few years.

Audi A6 Avant E-Tron

The unveiling of the new Audi A6 Avant E-tron estate concept car was an imminent signal for the release of Audi's forthcoming prototypes.

Audi A6 E-tron Concept Car for 2023Even though we need to wait until 2023 to see the launch of the new Audi A6 E-tron, it will be an event worth waiting for.

The manufacturers say the A6 E-tron concept vehicle's 100 kilowatt hour battery results in a journey of 435 miles on a single charge. Let's see if the finished car can match these figures.

However, being able to support up to 270 kilowatt quick charging means A6 E-tron owners will only need about ten (10) minutes to recharge for a 186 mile journey.

In 2023, Audi is set to launch the A6 Avant estate and the E-tron sedan versions. Even so, we expect their new electric vehicle models to emphasise Audi's idiosyncratic side appearance.

Unlike previous models, such as the Audi Q3, the new Avant is a large vehicle. The curved roof line moves away from the traditional A6 style and instead shows more resemblance to that of the Audi A7.

BMW iX1 Electric SUV

The iX1 is one of a dozen new electric vehicles that BMW is set to release by 2025. As a result, BMW's first fully-electric compact SUV may present a credible challenge to the Mercedes EQA range.

BMW iX1 2023We also understand the electric components of the BMW iX1 SUV will mimic those used in the bigger model - the iX3.

An 80 hour lithium ion battery pack will power this vehicle. So, it is likely to travel up to 285 miles on a single charge.

A 150 kilowatt option may also be used to charge the BMW iX1 all-electric version. That means you may only need ten (10) minutes to get sixty miles of extra driving range.

We expect the price to be higher than previous models, such as the BMW X6. Even so, it will retain BMW's luxurious signature when the new iX1 is released in 2023.

Chevrolet Equinox EV

The scheduled release date for the all-electric Chevrolet Equinox compact SUV is around October 2023. So, it will be replacing the gasoline-powered model once the Chevy becomes available in electric version.

Chevrolet Equinox EV 2023One of the notable features of the new Equinox EV is the futuristic interior and the stylish design.

Chevrolet will be using the 'game-changing' GM ultim battery. So, the Equinox could have 400-volt battery packs with up to 200-kW DC fast-charging capability.

Note: Last time we checked, there were no official specifications on the capacity or expected driving range for the battery.

It's difficult not to like the appearance of the new Chevy Equinox EV. The narrow top light strip catches your attention at the front end with two lights underneath - resembling a grille.

The flared front fenders and rear haunches are wide and broad-ranging. Furthermore, the sharp back roof line differs from its crossover counterparts.

Ford F-150® Lightning® 2023

Like its name suggests, the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning is set to be the fastest-accelerating F-150. It takes a little over four seconds to reach 60 mph from standing still - even when equipped with their extended-range battery.

Ford F-150 Lightning Electric Truck 2023So, smooth, exhilarating, and quick off the mark is the best way to describe how truck owners will feel about the new F-150 Lightning.

In fact, the Ford F-series has been the best selling vehicle in North America for about forty years. And now they are launching electric pickup models.

There is a choice between two different battery packs (estimated EPA goal of 230 miles for the rear-drive trucks and 300 miles for dual-motor all-wheel-drive models).

Ford Motor Company claims the two configurations create 775 pound-feet of torque. That is significantly more than the PowerBoost hybrid V-6. As a result, the 2023 F-150 Lightning could prove to be one of the quickest pickups offered in car showrooms.

Honda Prologue Electric SUV

As Honda enters a new age of electric automobiles, we need to wait until 2024 for the release of the fully-electric Prologue SUV.

Nonetheless, its adaptability and driving range is expected to complement the usual characteristics of the current SUV portfolio.

Honda Prologue Electric SUV 2024The new electric car from Honda comes from a unique relationship they have set up with General Motor Company (GMC).

GM will design the base and powertrains for the Prologue EV. Honda will be building the body and the interior.

Despite not yet being confirmed, we assume 2024 Honda Prologues will be compact to midsize SUVs. We also expect a 300 mile range from the Lyriq 100 kilowatt hour battery (if used).

Further details about the specifications and interior trim levels are sparse at this time - including the final pricing. Best estimates put the Honda Prologue EV in the $45,000 price range.

Mercedes-Benz EQG Off-Roader

The history behind the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is also notable for different kinds of all-terrain vehicles. As such, the G-Class will spawn the forthcoming all-electric Mercedes EQG.

Mercedes-Benz EQG Off-Roader 2024We understand there will be one electric motor for each wheel, and they will integrate the batteries into a ladder frame structure.

Each wheel will have individual management of its own electric motor. Hence, it should improve its off-road driving capabilities along with those for normal road use.

We searched for clues about the design of the new Mercedes-Benz EQG. It appears that it will have a shiftable 2-speed gearbox and a chassis like the gas powered G-Class range.

Furthermore, the independent front suspension, along with a stiff rear axle, should help improve on-road driving. When it goes on sale, we contemplate the price of the 2024 Mercedes electric off-roader costing somewhere in the region of $150,000.

Note: Another section has more information about Mercedes-Benz SUV 4x4 vehicles and crossovers and how they are synonymous with luxury automobiles in the United Kingdom.

Porsche Macan EV

Porsche's best-selling car in 2016 was the Macan SUV. Hence, there should be a lot of excitement if they release their new all-electric variant in the 2024 model year.

The luxury automakers will use the new electric platform - which also underlies the Audi E-tron - to build the 2024 Porsche Macan EV.

Porsche Macan EV 2023As you may expect, little information and details about the Macan's capabilities are available at this time.

Porsche said it will have an improved driving range on a single charge. The Taycan electric sedan is the current benchmark for the specs.

So, based on that, the Porsche Taycan tops out at 227 miles thanks to the 800 volt electrical design and expected quick charging times.

We anticipate greeting a new powerful variant in the future with a top of the line GTS model in the pipeline running alongside the gasoline-powered version.

Porsche Macan Electric Vehicle Concept Car 2023 Price RangeThe 2024 Porsche Macan EV could have a starting price around £67,100*

AFEELA Reveals its New Mobility Prototype

After signing a joint memorandum of understanding in 2022, Honda and Sony showcased 'AFEELA' - their new EV brand. They say it will have full in-car entertainment and offer Level 3 self-driving capabilities.

AFEELA Reveals its New EV Mobility Prototype planned for 2025As you may expect, Sony says it will be enhanced with innovative cutting-edge technology. Most of it will be powered by chips from Qualcomm and the video game company Epic Games.

The 'mobility prototype' will have forty five individual cameras and sensors positioned around the interior and exterior of the car.

Having the Level 3 self-driving rating means with driver oversight it will be able to "operate autonomously under normal environmental conditions".

By contrast, Level 5 is the highest rating for self-driving technology. This definition relates to a completely autonomous vehicle. Sony plans to equip later models with the high-performance semiconductors required for this functionality.

AFEELA In-car Entertainment Systems

The hardware and software will spotlight innovative in-vehicle infotainment (IVI). The car will have screen displays in the front and rear seating areas. Thus, passengers will be able to watch their favourite movies, play video games, or listen to music.

The joint EV manufacturers (Sony and Honda) plan to install a digital screen (called a 'media bar') between the two front headlights. It will display the current status of battery charging, animations, and even some local weather information.

To prove a point, they demonstrated Spiderman - animated on the media bar at CES in Las Vegas. Mizuno said this technology allows for some 'interaction' between the vehicle and people in the nearby vicinity.

We are still waiting to hear the official launch date of the AFEELA mobility prototype. But, we understand as production begins in 2025 they will be accepting pre-orders soon after and deliveries to start in North America following that.
