RANGER WILDTRAK: Ford Ranger continues to set new standards in the powerful 4x4 pickup range. It offers car-like comfort, superb handling, and low running costs with a 3.5t towing capacity.

There was one obvious outcome from the latest Ford Ranger Wildtrak review. It is a very capable workhorse.

The Ford Ranger Wildtrak sits among a growing array of pickups. But, does it offer enough to complete the package and how does it outrank its rivals?

Even though the original Ford Ranger Double Cab was best used as a working pickup. Later models aim to meet the higher expectations of private owners for family duties.

Each year, traditional working pickups need to keep pace with their rivals. The Ford Ranger Wildtrak 4x4 is no different.

To prove a point, high sellers like the Toyota Hilux and the Nissan Navara get more refined and SUV-like. The Ranger Wildtrak 4x4 must meet the same performance and interior quality of its rivals.

The Ford Ranger Wildtrak definitely looks meaner and bolder, both inside and out. The aim of the designers was to create a tough solid appearance.

A squashing and squaring of the headlights achieved the somewhat 'glaring' effect. They followed that by installing the thick three-bar grille. That mean look gets its origins from the Ford F150 Raptor.

Giving the front grille a hexagonal outline also mimics the rest of the Ford Light Commercial Vehicle line-up. Quite simply, the Ranger Wildtrak is a solid all-rounder.

Ford designers take a more subtle approach to the interior trim of the Ranger Wildtrak. A conventional center console replaces the funky G-Shock watch-inspired dashboard styling.

The dash also gets a new 8 inch touchscreen tech device. Ford ‘SYNC 2’ interface is standard on the Wildtrak and Limited trim levels.

The Wildtrak 4x4 cabin also gets several other driver assist features. These include a camera-guided lane keeping alert and a lane keeping aid. The tech list continues with a large rear view camera and front and rear parking sensors.
