Dacia History: A Story of a Brand Reborn
The Romanian car manufacturer known as Dacia was first founded back in 1966. At the time, the name came about from the historical region of Dacia in southeastern Europe - which now corresponds to Romania as we know it today.
Here's the thing:
The original intention was to create affordable and reliable vehicles for the Romanian car market. During this time, Dacia was producing vehicles under license from Renault. In fact, the medium-sized Dacia 1300 family car was actually based on one of the classic Renaults built by the French automaker - the Renault 12.
Over the next three decades, Dacia's cars were simple, rugged, and more importantly, easy to repair. Then, after Renault acquired Dacia in 1999, the partnership injected capital, further expertise, and modern manufacturing processes.
Even though "affordability" remained as the main focus, the first major success under the new ownership was the Dacia Logan (first launched in 2004).
And currently...
Today, the full Dacia lineup also includes several other popular models, including the Sandero, the Duster SUV, and the versatile Dacia Jogger seven-seater (launched in 2022).
As Dacia continues to meet the needs of its faithful customers, they will introduce a range of flagship models that aim to become proven game changers in the automotive market.
